BJP Surges Ahead In Arunachal Pradesh Elections, Eyeing Third Consecutive Term

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the frontrunner in Arunachal Pradesh elections, clinching victory in 15 seats and leading in 31 others as vote counting progresses in the northeastern state.

The BJP’s impressive performance virtually guarantees the party a third consecutive term in office.

As the electoral process unfolds across 24 districts in Arunachal Pradesh, BJP candidates have taken the lead in significant constituencies including Along (East), Along (West), Anini, Basar, Changlang (North), Changlang (South), Dambuk, Kalaktang, Koloriang, Lekang, Likabali (ST), Lumla, Nacho, Namsai, Nari Koyu (ST), Palin, and Pongchau-Wakka.

Meanwhile, the National People’s Party (NPP) has made headway in six constituencies, with their candidates leading in Bordumsa-Diyun, Dirang, Liromoba, Rumgong, and Tawang.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is trailing behind with leads in three seats Bordumsa-Diyun, Lekang, and Yachuli, while the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) is ahead in Doimukh and Mebo.

Independent candidate Wanglam Sawin has secured victory in the Khonsa (East) seat, adding diversity to the political landscape of the state.

However, the Opposition Congress, contesting in 19 seats, has failed to make any significant gains thus far, drawing a blank in the ongoing election.

Electoral Process In Arunachal Pradesh Elections

The electoral process in Arunachal Pradesh commenced on 19 April, coinciding with the Lok Sabha elections in two Parliamentary constituencies of the state Arunachal West and Arunachal East.

Notably, Chief Minister Pema Khandu secured an uncontested victory from the Mukto Assembly seat, along with Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein from the Chowkham (ST) seat.

Additionally, 8 BJP nominees were elected uncontested, further strengthening the party’s position.

The current 60-member Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, whose tenure concludes on June 2, witnessed an impressive turnout during the polling, with 78 percent participation recorded in the Parliamentary elections and 83 percent in the Assembly polls.

The meticulous process of counting votes commenced at 6 a.m. across 24 counting centers, with more than 2,000 officials deployed under stringent security measures.

The Election Commission has appointed 27 observers to oversee the process, along with 489 micro-observers ensuring transparency and fairness.

The forthcoming results of the Parliamentary seats, scheduled for announcement on June 4th, are capturing everyone’s attention as they align with the national schedule.

As the political landscape takes shape in Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP’s commanding lead signifies a potential continuation of its governance, heralding significant implications for the state’s future trajectory.
