Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced his intent to surrender at Tihar prison today, around 3 PM. This decision comes after his recent campaign, which lasted for 21 days, as mandated by the Supreme Court.

Expressing gratitude towards the Supreme Court, Kejriwal emphasized his compliance with the judicial order. He stated, “I came out for the election campaign for 21 days on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. I am very grateful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Today I will surrender by going to Tihar.”

Before heading to Tihar, Kejriwal plans to visit significant spiritual sites in the city. He outlined his itinerary, mentioning visits to Rajghat and the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place.

The purpose, as stated by Kejriwal, is to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and seek the blessings of Hanuman ji.

Kejriwal’s Surrender Journey: From Rajghat To Tihar

Kejriwal took to social media to communicate his plans, posting in Hindi, “First, I will go to Rajghat and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. From there, I will go to the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place to seek the blessings of Hanuman ji. And from there, I will go to the party office and meet all the workers and party leaders. From there, I will again leave for Tihar.”

Taking to X, he reassured his supporters, urging them to take care of themselves while promising to look after them even during his time in jail.

Kejriwal posted, “All of you take care of yourselves. I will take care of you all in jail. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail.”

The decision to surrender comes in the wake of a pending legal matter.

A Delhi court has reserved its order on Kejriwal’s interim bail plea, wherein he sought seven days’ bail on medical grounds. The case is related to a money laundering case associated with an alleged excise policy scam.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Court has reserved the verdict, which is expected to be announced on 5 June. Kejriwal’s legal counsel cited medical reasons in support of the bail plea, awaiting the court’s decision on the matter.
