BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma on Saturday accused Congress leader Digvijaya Singh of attempting to position himself as the “new Jinnah” of India. Sharma, a Hindutva leader from Bhopal’s Huzur Assembly constituency, made this statement while responding to a recent remark by Singh.
Singh, speaking to the Association of Muslim Professionals in Bhopal, highlighted the lack of education among Muslims. He noted that only 74% of Muslims had formal education, with fewer women being educated compared to men.
In response, Sharma criticized Singh and Congress, claiming they were conspiring to grant Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes’ (SC/ST) reservation quotas to Muslims to secure votes. He further urged Lord Ganesha to “enlighten” Singh.

Sharma also questioned why Congress, during its regime, failed to provide adequate education to Muslims. He alleged that the Congress government prioritized the establishment of madrasas over schools, which he claimed led to Muslims being kept out of mainstream education. Sharma stated that madrasas were breeding grounds for extremists, which prevented Muslims from holding significant government positions like Superintendent of Police or District Collector.
The BJP MLA defended his party, saying the BJP government is working to bring Muslims into mainstream education. He acknowledged that while it will take time, the government is committed to making this change.
Sharma, known for his controversial remarks on minority communities, frequently targets Digvijaya Singh.
