On Wednesday, Mohan Yadav was sworn in as the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the chief ministers of states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party were present at the function.
Rajendra Shukla and Jagdish Devda were also sworn in as deputy chief ministers.
The 58-year-old Mohan Yadav visited a Bhopal temple before the oath ceremony.
In addition, he paid his respects to Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, the founding ideologue of the BJP, and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, one of the founding members of the Jana Sangh, at the state BJP office.
After weeks of anticipation, the Bharatiya Janata Party named Yadav as the next chief minister of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, and denying party icon Shivraj Singh Chouhan of fifth term in office.
During a meeting on Monday, Yadav, a minister in the Chouhan government, was unanimously chosen to lead the BJP legislative party.
He is from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, which makes up more than 48% of the state’s population, and is regarded as being close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In 2013, Yadav won his first election to the Ujjain South seat as an MLA.
He was able to hold onto the assembly seat in both 2018 and 2023.
