Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a detailed review of the state’s flood situation, relief measures and damage assessment in Patna.
The meeting at ‘Sankalp’ Hall at the Chief Minister’s residence brought together senior officials from departments handling agriculture, water resources, health, energy, rural works and disaster management.
Choudhary said the floods had impacted approximately 50 lakh residents across 88 blocks in 15 districts during the year.
He said government agencies had maintained relief and rescue operations and supplied food to nearly 1.62 crore people through more than 1,000 community kitchens.
The administration has also arranged basic amenities at relief camps, while officials provided details of damage to roads, agriculture, electricity, healthcare and drinking-water infrastructure.
The Chief Minister said the state would finish a detailed evaluation of flood-related losses before Durga Puja and forward the report to the Central government.
He stressed the importance of finding a lasting answer to Bihar’s recurring flood crisis, citing the state’s geographical conditions as a major factor behind its annual vulnerability.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan Promises Central Support
Chouhan commended Bihar’s response to the floods and recognised the contribution of Choudhary, Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, officials and other personnel.
He said the disaster had caused considerable losses to infrastructure and standing crops, with banana, maize and paddy among the affected produce.
The Union Minister said authorities would work towards supplying better-quality seeds for banana, maize and litchi to improve productivity, raise farmers’ earnings and strengthen agricultural export prospects.
He also said flood-damaged homes would be considered for rebuilding through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The government will extend assistance to ‘Jivika Didis’ and women’s self-help groups, while affected farmers will receive improved seeds.
Officials presented sector-wise updates covering rescue operations, relief distribution, agricultural damage, infrastructure losses, power services, healthcare and drinking-water arrangements.
