Arvind Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, described the arrest of party leader Sanjay Singh by the Enforcement Directorate as “totally illegal” and claimed that it demonstrates the “frustration” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also asserted that numerous additional opposition leaders will be detained until the elections.
“The arrest of Sanjay Singh is totally illegal. This shows Modiji’s frustration. They will arrest many more opposition leaders till the elections,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.
After a day-long questioning by ED agents at his Delhi home, MP Sanjay Singh was arrested. Later, he was taken to the ED office.
Sanjay Singh’s home was searched by the central investigation agency on Wednesday morning in relation to Delhi’s now-cancelled liquor excise policy. The development came after an ED raid on Sanjay Singh’s close associates’ offices.
In the Delhi excise policy case, it is alleged that the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021–22 allowed cartelization and favoured some dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it, a claim that the AAP has vehemently denied.
