Anti-Sikh Riots 1984: Side Of Victims Presented In Court In Pul Bangash Murder Case, CBI Responds

In the Pul Bangash case related to 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a representation was presented in the court on behalf of the victims regarding framing of charges. The victims rejected the plea of accused Congress leader Jagdish Tytler that he was with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the day of the incident. Tytler will present its case on May 6. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has presented its stand in this matter.

The CBI had told the court that it had eyewitnesses who had seen Jagdish Tytler instigating the mob during the 1984 riots. Thus, there is sufficient evidence to frame charges against accused Tytler. During his arguments, the CBI lawyer had cited the statements of four eyewitnesses including Surendra Singh. He had said that the said witnesses had seen Tytler instigating the mob after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The case pertains to the alleged murder of three Sikhs, Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Guru Charan Singh, in front of Pul Bangash Guru Dwar on November 1, 1984. The CBI had filed a supplementary charge sheet against him in May 2023. The court had issued summons after taking cognizance of the supplementary charge sheet. After that Tytler appeared in the court on August 5 last year. After this he appeared through video conferencing.

Earlier, the Sessions Court had granted anticipatory bail on August 4 after hearing his bail application. CBI had filed the supplementary charge sheet on May 20. The Central Bureau of Investigation on May 20 filed a charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots following the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India on October 31, 1984.
