Andhra Govt Forms SIT To Probe Adulteration Of Ghee Used For Tirupati Laddu

Lab reports shared by Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) confirmed the presence of animal fat, including beef tallow and lard, in the ghee used for the temple’s prasadam

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the adulteration of ghee used in making the famous Tirupati laddu. Sarvashrestha Tripathi, Inspector General of Police, Guntur range, will lead the SIT, which includes two other senior officers.

Allegations of Animal Fat in Ghee

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced the probe following allegations that ghee used during the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) rule contained animal fat. Lab reports shared by Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) confirmed the presence of animal fat, including beef tallow and lard, in the ghee used for the temple’s prasadam.

The allegations outraged devotees across the country, with many demanding strict action against those responsible. Naidu promised action based on the SIT’s findings.

YSRCP Denies Allegations

YSRCP president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly denied the accusations, claiming that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has strict quality checks in place. He accused Naidu of making false claims and hurting the sentiments of devotees. YSRCP leader Y. V. Subba Reddy has approached the Supreme Court, seeking an independent investigation into the matter.
