Amit Shah to move 3 criminal code bills in Rajya Sabha today

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move three new criminal code bills for discussion and eventual passage in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. The Lok Sabha on Wednesday passed the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill, 2023.

The Telecommunications Bill, 2023 will be moved by the Center in the Upper House for review and approval. The purpose of the bill is to amend and combine the laws about the creation, growth, and use of communication networks and services, as well as the distribution of the spectrum and related topics. The Lok Sabha approved it on Wednesday.

Opposition leaders are expected to continue their protest today over the security breach that occurred on December 13 and against the suspension of 143 opposition MPs.

The Opposition members’ insistence on getting a statement from Shah regarding the security breach in Parliament led to the suspensions. The INDIA bloc’s parliamentarians decided to stage a nationwide demonstration on Friday including Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.
