Akhilesh Yadav Slams Yogi Government Over Death Of 54 People In Ballia Due To Heatstroke

Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party National President calls death of 36 people due to heatstroke “unfortunate and shameful”. The death has been accounted in just last 24 hours. Akhilesh stated that the Centre government has has failed the people badly on the healthcare and power front.

Akhilesh said that 121 patients had died in Ballia in the last eight days, which was a matter of concern since the official figures for the past three days were 54.  “What is more surprising is that instead of accepting the failures, the CM, departmental ministers and officials are pointing fingers at each other,” he said.

A day after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath evaluated the state’s electricity condition and voiced his anger about unexpected power outages, Akhilesh made his remarks. A top health official in Ballia was transferred out a few hours later, according to the health minister, for making careless statements to the media.

“It seems the healthcare and power supply have completely collapsed. There is no governance. The government is neither able to provide health care nor adequate power supply,” he said.

“The tall claims of the health minister have been exposed. Government hospitals and medical colleges don’t have necessary medicines,” he said.

BJP government’s failure

According to Akhilesh, the current power crisis is a result of the BJP government’s failure to increase electricity generation by even a single unit from what the Samajwadi Party administration had already accomplished. “They have not produced a single unit more than what the SP government had increased. Whatever power is being supplied today is being produced at power plants that were set up during the SP government,” he said.

What is more astonishing, according to the SP leader, is that the administration was aware that a heat wave would affect the entire nation in general and the UP and neighbouring states in particular. “This was public knowledge. The government was aware of total production capacity of power plants in UP and the level of demand for power. Yet, no arrangements were made beforehand to fetch relief to people,” he said.
