Ajay Rai Applauds His Lawyer Over Mukhtar Ansari’s Conviction in Awadhesh Rai Murder Case

Gangster-turned-politician, Mukhtar Ansari has finally been convicted in 32 year old Awadhesh Rai murder case. Awadhesh Rai was Congress Leader and brother of former MLA Ajay Rai. He was shot dead outside Ajai Rai’s house in Varanasi in the year 1991. An FIR has been filed in the case by Ajay Rai accusing Mukhtar Ansari, Bhim Singh and former MLA Abdul Kalim in the FIR.

Mukhtar Ansari’s History

He is a feared gangster turned politician, who in the state of UP has been an MLA for five terms in a row. He has been wining from the Mau Sadar assembly. However, the minister did not contest the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and his throne was taken over by his own son Abbas Ansari.

Mukhtar’s name first appeared in 1988 murder case of a local contractor Sachchidanand Rai. It is believed that he had stepped into the crime world only after this murder. He has a long list of cases filed against him. The highlight of the list is murder of Krishanand Rai with an AK-47 rifle in November 2005. Krishanand was an MLA from BJP who held great position in the party and state politics.

Ajay Rai expresses his feelings over the conviction

Reacting to the development of the case, Ajay Rai said, “This is the end of our many years of waiting I, my parents, Awadhesh’s daughter and the whole family kept patience… Governments came and went and Mukhtar strengthened himself.

“But we did not give up. Because of our lawyers’ efforts, today the court has found Mukhtar guilty in the murder case of my brother,” Rai added.

The minister is elated with the decision of the court as the fmily and the minister himself has been waiting for this since a long period of time.
