Air India Flight AI 171 crashed during takeoff at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad on Thursday, resulting in a tragic incident.

Air India Flight AI171, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday, causing panic in Meghaninagar, the area where the aircraft went down.

The flight was en route to Gatwick Airport in the UK and had over 242 passengers on board.

Following the crash, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner to review the emergency measures and coordinate swift response efforts.

Among those reportedly on the flight was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. His status remains unverified.

Locals described the crash as terrifying, with dense smoke rising above the neighbourhood and visible from distant areas like Vastrapur.

The impact prompted authorities to lock down all roads surrounding the site, ensuring unhindered access for emergency services and rescue teams.

Several injured passengers have been taken to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment.

Emergency crews, including firefighters and medical responders, arrived promptly at the crash site. Containment efforts are still ongoing.

Authorities have launched an official investigation but have not yet determined the cause of the crash. They have also urged citizens to avoid the area to ensure that rescue and relief work continues without disruption.

Taking to X, Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu posted, “Shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action.”

“Rescue teams have been mobilised, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site. My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families,” the post added.
