Air India CEO and Managing Director Campbell Wilson on Thursday expressed profound grief over the crash of Flight AI171, which occurred shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad.
In a heartfelt video message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Wilson described it as a ‘difficult day for all of us at Air India’ and emphasised the airline’s commitment to supporting passengers, crew, and their families.
Wilson assured that the airline is fully focused on the needs of those affected.
“Our efforts are now focused entirely on the needs of our passengers, crew members, their families and loved ones,” he said in the video.
Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, was en route from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport when it crashed, triggering a massive emergency response.
Wilson confirmed that local authorities quickly transported the injured to nearby hospitals for medical care.
He noted that Air India has sent a special team of caregivers to Ahmedabad to offer on-ground assistance.
“A special team of caregivers from Air India is on their way to Ahmedabad to provide additional support,” he stated.
Air India is working closely with emergency services and other authorities to support ongoing relief efforts.
Wilson announced the launch of a dedicated helpline to assist families and friends seeking updates on their loved ones.
“We know many people are concerned. We have set up a special helpline that friends and family can use to reach us,” Wilson said.
The airline chief urged the public and media to rely only on confirmed information, warning against speculation.
“Anything we report must be factual and not speculative. We owe that to everyone involved,” he stated firmly.
