Air India has stepped up its support for the families affected by the crash of flight AI-171 by announcing an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh for each deceased passenger’s next of kin, along with the sole survivor.
This aid is in addition to the ₹1 crore assistance already pledged by Tata Sons.
Over 200 caregivers deployed in Ahmedabad
In a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson confirmed the deployment of over 200 trained caregivers in Ahmedabad. These personnel are providing round-the-clock support to families of the victims.

The airline has assigned a dedicated support person to each affected family and is offering access to grief counselling and essential services.
Top leadership engaged in On-ground response
Wilson, who personally visited the crash site and met with grieving families, stated that Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran and Air India’s senior leadership have been present in the city.
He added that key management members will remain in Ahmedabad “for as long as it takes.”
Air India has also started returning the remains and personal belongings of the victims to their families and is coordinating repatriation when required.
“This is an emotional process, and we ask that families be given space,” Wilson said.
Safety inspections underway on Dreamliner Fleet
Following directives from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Air India has launched precautionary safety checks on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. So far, engineers have inspected nine aircraft, and the remaining 24 will undergo tests within the regulator’s timeline.
The inspections include checks on engines, fuel systems, cabin compressors, and hydraulic systems as aircraft return to base.
Wilson confirmed that authorities have recovered the aircraft’s flight data recorder, which will be vital to the ongoing investigation. Air India is fully cooperating with the probe led by the civil aviation authorities.

The Air India CEO praised the swift response of emergency workers, local authorities, and the airline’s staff. “I also wish to acknowledge the work done by first responders and our crew, who continue to uphold safety and professionalism,” Wilson said.
Air India reiterated its commitment to supporting affected families and ensuring full transparency as the investigation progresses.
