Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the Moon: Today, India has become the first country in the world to successfully land on the South Pole of the Moon. On Wednesday, August 23, as the sun rose on the Moon, ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 lander Vikram successfully touched down on the surface of the Moon. ISRO Chief S. Somanath, while informing Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the landing on the South Pole of the Moon, said, “Greetings, Prime Minister. We have successfully performed a soft landing on the Moon. India is on the Moon.”
Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14th, last month, at 3:35 pm from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. It reached the moon’s orbit on August 5th, 22 days later. And today, on the evening of August 23rd, at 6:03 pm, it landed on the moon’s South Pole. During this time, the attention of the country and the world remained on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. After the landing on the moon, ISRO scientists chanted the slogan “Vande Mataram” and said, “We did it.”
Not only in India, but also in various places abroad, prayers and rituals were conducted for the success of Chandrayaan-3. A special ritual called “Bhasm Aarti” was performed at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain on Wednesday morning for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3. According to reports, more than 50 scientists at the Mission Operations Complex (MOX) of ISRO’s Telemetry and Command Center (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru worked overnight to analyze the data received from Chandrayaan-3 on their computers. They continuously sent inputs to the lander, ensuring that there was no room for any wrong decisions during the landing.
Chandrayaan-3 is composed of three parts
In Chandrayaan-3, there are a lander, rover, and propulsion module. On August 17, at 1:15 PM, the propulsion module was separated from the lander and rover. The propulsion module will now remain in the lunar orbit and study the radiation coming from Earth, while the lander and rover will carry out experiments for 14 days.
ISRO Chief S. Somanath visited the temple and performed the puja and archna (rituals). He offered fruits as a sacred offering to the deity.
