Varanasi, 8 August: The Adani Foundation celebrated World Breastfeeding Week in Varanasi’s urban slums, organizing various activities to promote breastfeeding awareness. Events took place in neighborhoods such as Nevada, Sundarpur, Badi Patia, Nakkighat, and Rajghat, among others.
The initiative aimed to educate pregnant and lactating mothers on the importance of breastfeeding and to encourage family support. Activities included community rallies, family counseling, group discussions, cooking demonstrations, and street plays. The street play “Agar Mile Jo Sabka Saath Theek Rahe Bachhe Ka Swasthya” highlighted the health risks associated with not breastfeeding.
Child Development Project Supervisor Punita Singh spoke on how breastfeeding can reduce malnutrition. Regional Councilor Shyam Ashray Maurya led a community pledge to support breastfeeding mothers. Nutrition Officer Mamta Yadav detailed the benefits of breastfeeding for both mother and child.
Approximately 1,700 beneficiaries from 62 urban slums participated in the week-long awareness program.
Anganwadi workers, health department staff, and nutrition companions, including Sushma Devi, Anupama Verma, and Preeti Maurya, were among those present at the events.
