The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has once again summoned prominent actress Rituparna Sengupta for questioning regarding her alleged involvement in the ration distribution scam case in West Bengal.

The updated summons, issued on Thursday, instructs Sengupta to present herself at the ED’s office situated in the CGO Complex at Salt Lake, on the periphery of Kolkata, during the upcoming week.

Sengupta was to attend the ED questioning session on Wednesday. However, she failed to comply with the summons, citing prior commitments abroad.

Instead, she sent a communication to the Central agency expressing her inability to appear in person but assured full cooperation with the investigation.

She also conveyed her willingness to participate in the interrogation at a later date.

Following Sengupta’s communication, ED officials decided to serve her with a fresh notice, allowing reasonable time for her appearance at the agency’s office.

According to sources close to the investigation, Sengupta’s name emerged during the scrutiny of documents related to a key accused in the ration distribution case.

This is not the first time Sengupta has come under the ED’s radar. In 2019, she was summoned by the agency in connection with the multi-crore Rose Valley chit fund scam in West Bengal.

Allegations suggested her involvement in entertainment projects, including films, promoted by the Rose Valley Group.

Claims asserted that laundered money from the group’s marketing schemes financed these films, offering investors high returns.

The development has sparked interest and speculation, particularly within the entertainment industry, as Sengupta remains a prominent figure known for her contributions to Bengali cinema.
