Rouse Avenue Court has sent AAP MLA Naresh Baliyan to judicial custody. The court rejected Delhi Police’s request to extend his remand. Special Judge Kaberi Baveja issued the order. Baliyan had been arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) after he was granted bail in a separate case.
Delhi Police Seek Extended Remand
Delhi Police had requested a 10-day extension of Baliyan’s police remand. Special Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh argued that daily firing incidents were occurring and that the police needed to uncover Baliyan’s alleged criminal syndicate. He also stated that many victims had not filed reports due to fear. The court, however, denied the remand extension and sent Baliyan to judicial custody instead.
Baliyan’s Lawyer Denies Allegations
Baliyan’s lawyer responded by stating that Delhi Police had no case against him. He called the arrest an attempt to defame Baliyan and disrupt his political campaign. The lawyer also questioned the authenticity of the audio clips that allegedly feature Baliyan and gangster Kapil Sangwan. Baliyan’s lawyer emphasized that he was a social worker, helping victims of extortion.
The case revolves around an audio clip, which Delhi Police claims shows Baliyan discussing extortion with Kapil Sangwan, a notorious gangster living in Britain. Delhi Police filed an FIR regarding this matter in 2023. Sangwan is also believed to be behind multiple murders, including the Nafe Singh murder in Haryana.
