Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday outlined an ambitious roadmap for Viksit Bharat, calling for stronger manufacturing, defence self-reliance, technological leadership, sustainable growth and greater global recognition for Indian brands.
Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, PM Modi presented ‘Sapta Dhara’ or ‘Sapt Shakti’ as seven streams of strength that can drive India’s growth. He called for complete domestic value chains in manufacturing, from design and components to finished products, while stressing cost competitiveness, global scale and high-quality production.
The second focus is agriculture and food processing, with PM Modi calling for integrated supply chains linking farmers with global markets. He highlighted millets, spices and fruits, along with chemical-free farming and greater value addition through processing and exports.
Technology and innovation form the third stream. PM Modi urged India to move beyond being a technology market and become a global innovation hub, with leadership in artificial intelligence, quantum technology, space, robotics, digital public infrastructure and Made-in-India 6G.
Gati Shakti aims to improve multimodal connectivity, while Raksha Shakti focuses on defence self-reliance and global leadership in advanced technologies.
The sixth stream covers the Green and Blue Economy, with emphasis on green hydrogen, renewable energy, energy storage, fisheries, coastal tourism and marine technologies.
The seventh focuses on India’s soft power, including culture, Yoga, Ayurveda, tourism and the creative economy.
PM Modi called for globally competitive Indian companies, aiming for 50 to enter the Fortune 500. He urged support for drug-free youth, accurate participation in the Digital Census, cooperative federalism and greater political representation for women.
