Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced a major Artificial Intelligence skills initiative for India’s youth.
Addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort on the 80th Independence Day, PM Modi said the government will work to provide AI skill training to one crore young people over the next year.
PM Modi said trained youth must develop the expertise needed to help India lead globally in artificial intelligence. He described young Indians as the strongest driving force behind the nation’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s growing entrepreneurial ecosystem. He further said more than 2.5 lakh startups now operate across the country, with young entrepreneurs creating employment.
PM Modi referred to the government’s Rs 1 lakh crore fund and urged young entrepreneurs to pursue their ambitions without worrying about a shortage of resources.
Prime Minister Modi pointed to India’s digital expansion. He said the country offers the cheapest internet. He further highlighted the rapid growth of higher education.
Between 2004 and 2014, India had fewer than 350 universities, he said.
The country now has 650 new universities and is approaching the milestone of 1,000 universities.
The Prime Minister said the government continues to encourage young people to embrace technology and innovation.
Referring to India’s recent AI Summit, PM Modi announced the new training initiative.
“We have resolved that in the coming one year, we will work to provide AI skill training to 1 crore youth,” he said.
Earlier, PM Modi paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before reaching the Red Fort.
This year’s Independence Day marked a historic moment, with ‘Vande Mataram’ played at the Red Fort for the first time since Independence.
