36 per cent Voter Turnout Recorded Till 1 PM, Ladakh On Top with 52.02 %

Ladakh, with 52.02 per cent, recorded the highest percentage of voter turnout among the states and union territories under the poll today. In Maharashtra, only 27.78 voters have exercised their franchise. 

Across the 49 parliament constituencies in six states and two UTs, voter turnout has been registered at over 36 per cent till 1 pm in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.

Ladakh, with 52.02 per cent, recorded the highest percentage of voter turnout among the states and union territories under the poll today. In Maharashtra, only 27.78 voters have exercised their franchise.

Among the other states under the poll, Bihar recorded 34.62 per cent turnout, Jammu and Kashmir 34.79 per cent and West Bengal 48.51.

Seven parliament constituencies have witnessed sporadic incidents of violence in Bengal where TMC and BJP workers indulged in a clash in various parts of Bongaon, Barrackpore, and Arambagh seats. On the other hand, a village in Uttar Pradesh boycotted the poll.

Congress accused the BJP of not allowing people to cast votes in three booths in Bela Khara village of Rahi block in Uttar Pradesh.

In the Hisampur Madho village of Kaushambi people boycotted the polls and told officials that they would consider voting only after the administration gives them assurance that road and railway bridge connecting the village to the other area will be built.

Polling in 23 states and union territories has been completed so far. 379 seats already underwent the electoral process.

The sixth and seventh phase will take place on May 25 and June 1 respectively. the counting of votes and results is on June 4.
