Manipur Violence Opposition Visit 21 MPs of I.N.D.I.A. bloc leave for violence-hit state
I.N.D.I.A bloc party MPs at Delhi airport to leave for a two-day visit to Manipur to assess the ground situation and meet the people there.
A group of 20 members from 16 different parties will travel to Manipur on Sunday to conduct a “on-the-spot assessment” of the situation there. Manipur has been plagued by violence. The opposition Indian National
Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will be represented by the 20 MPs.
Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury remarked, “We are going there not to raise political issues but to understand the pain of the people of Manipur,” when asked about the trip to Manipur. We have urged the administration to address the delicate situation that has developed in Manipur. There is communal violence there, but it is not a law & order crisis. Additionally, it has an impact on the states nearby. The government has not carried out its duty. We will evaluate the actual scenario.
During the monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition coalition has protested in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha over its demands for a thorough debate of the situation in Manipur and a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
They are outraged at the Prime Minister’s silence about this matter, which erupted into a highly heated and violent argument in May of this year. The little northeastern state has had over a hundred fatalities and thousands of displaced residents.

After a “Tribal Solidarity March” was organized in the hill districts on May 3 in opposition to the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, fighting broke out in Manipur. Numerous people have been hurt and hundreds of people have died as a result of the violence.
The anxiety over the eviction of Kuki people from reserve forest area, which sparked a number of smaller agitations, came before the violence.
Meiteis make up the majority of the people in Manipur, making up around 53% of the total. Another 40% of the population is made up of tribes, like the Nagas and Kukis, who live in the highland districts.
