PM Modi To Unveil 25 E-Buses At Statue Of Unity; Strengthening India’s First E-City Vision

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 25 new electric buses (E-buses) at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on October 31 as part of his visit marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The launch aims to enhance the tourist experience around the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, while promoting eco-friendly transport solutions in the region.

With the induction of these new vehicles, the total fleet of E-buses in Ekta Nagar will rise to 55, all providing free travel services for visitors.

The initiative will significantly enhance last-mile connectivity and comfort for tourists, aligning with the Prime Minister’s broader vision of building a sustainable and smart tourism ecosystem in Gujarat.

The newly introduced nine-metre-long air-conditioned mini E-buses can travel up to 180 kilometres on a single charge, ensuring efficient operation across the vast tourist circuit.

Each vehicle includes two emergency exits, special amenities for differently-abled passengers, and four reserved pink seats for women, demonstrating the government’s commitment to inclusivity and passenger safety.

Officials from the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) stated that the expansion supports PM Modi’s vision of making Ekta Nagar a national model for green mobility and sustainable tourism.

Ekta Nagar: India’s First E-City

Prime Minister Modi had announced the development of Ekta Nagar as India’s first E-City on World Environment Day, June 5, 2021. Since then, SOUADTGA has introduced multiple eco-friendly transport modes, including E-cars, E-rickshaws, and E-buses, in successive phases.

These efforts have made Ekta Nagar a showcase for low-emission travel and environment-conscious development.

During his visit, PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth ₹1,219 crore, further strengthening the region’s tourism infrastructure.

Key highlights include the ₹367 crore Museum of Royal Kingdoms of India and the ₹303 crore Birsa Munda Bhavan, dedicated to the legendary tribal leader.

Of the total, projects worth over ₹700 crore will be initiated, while projects worth ₹519 crore will be formally inaugurated.

These initiatives underline the government’s commitment to cultural preservation, regional development, and inclusive growth.

To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, PM Modi will also unveil a commemorative coin and postal stamp, paying tribute to the Iron Man of India’s enduring legacy.

He will additionally flag off the new fleet of electric buses and participate in several public engagements celebrating the unity, vision, and development ethos that Patel stood for.

Through these initiatives, Prime Minister Modi continues to promote a balance between heritage conservation and modern infrastructure, ensuring that Ekta Nagar stands as a global example of green progress and national pride.
