2 Indian Ships In Singapore For The First Asean Naval Exercise

New Delhi: India has dispatched two frontline warships to participate in the first Asean naval exercise, as part of a broader programme to increase military outreach to the ten South East Asian nations with a firm eye on China.

The guided-missile destroyer INS Delhi and the multi-purpose stealth frigate INS Satpura arrived in Singapore on Monday for the maiden Asean-India Maritime Exercise, which will take place from May 2 to 8.

The harbour phase of the exercise will take place from May 2 to 4, while the sea phase will take place on May 7-8 in the controversial South China Sea, where China is involved in territorial disputes with its maritime neighbours.
