In the Madhya Pradesh region of Datia, two schoolgirls, ages 17 and 19, were allegedly stopped and subjected to sexual assault by four classmates, one of whom was the son of a well-known BJP leader.
According to investigators, one of the girls was gang-raped while her sister was abused. After the horrifying sexual attack, the gangrape victim made an attempt on her life but was saved by family members.
Local residents have protested against the incident due to local police inaction. Police registered a case on Friday night after protests. According to investigators, three of those responsible for the crime are minor.
The sisters, according to the complaint, stopped by the accused while on their way to home from school on Friday at about 2:00 p.m. They were taken to one of the accused house, where the 17year old was sexually assaulted and the older sister was subjected to gang rape.
When the sisters returned home, they were severely traumatised and kept quiet. However, the rape survivor’s younger sister told their parents about the incident after the elder sister attempted suicide.
The sisters were taken to a hospital in Jhansi after the family lodged a complaint with the neighbourhood police department. Despite needing hospitalisation, the gangrape victim is reportedly in a stable state, according to sources. Doctors anticipate releasing her shortly, according to Datia SP Pradesh Sharma.
Locals said that police took too long to file FIR, and around 9.30 p.m. they gheraoed the Unav police station to demand action after which a case was registered against all the suspects. According to SP Sharma, three of the accused are being held in prison while senior authorities look into the matter. They are accused of gang rape, abuse, and illegal imprisonment.
