Marking 11 years in power, the PM Modi government has showcased its focused and inclusive governance model that has brought over 25 crore Indians out of multidimensional poverty.
With ‘Garib Kalyan’ (welfare of the poor) as the core of its policy framework, the government has implemented a series of landmark welfare schemes that have reshaped lives across rural and urban India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting this achievement, posted on X, “Over the past decade, the NDA Government has taken pathbreaking steps to uplift several people from the clutches of poverty, focussing on empowerment, infrastructure and inclusion.”
Since 2014, the Modi government has launched and expanded several targeted initiatives, including Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), aimed at delivering last-mile benefits and empowering the economically weaker sections of society.
Under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, India has achieved 100% Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in over 4,576 cities.
This achievement has ensured improved hygiene and dignity for millions, especially in underserved areas.
The government has built nearly 12 crore toilets in rural India.
Additionally, over five lakh villages now have solid and liquid waste management systems in place, reinforcing the success of the rural sanitation mission.
Through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, more than 4 crore houses have been constructed.
Remarkably, 73% of these homes are owned or co-owned by women, contributing significantly to women’s empowerment.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has brought free solar power to over 10 lakh households.
Beneficiaries receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month, reducing energy costs and promoting green energy adoption.
The DBT system has revolutionised welfare delivery by eliminating middlemen and plugging leakages.
Currently, more than 1,200 government schemes use DBT, with benefits reaching crores of citizens and saving the government approximately ₹3.48 lakh crore.
Touted as the world’s largest health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat has facilitated over 9.3 crore free medical treatments.
The scheme provides coverage of ₹5 lakh per family annually and now includes all senior citizens above 70 years of age.
The Ujala Yojana has distributed more than 36 crore energy-efficient LED bulbs, helping households save up to ₹19,153 crore annually and cutting 3.87 crore tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, millions of households have gained access to safe drinking water through tap connections.
The scheme has reduced the burden on women and improved public health outcomes.
More than 10 crore LPG connections have been provided under PM Ujjwala Yojana, enabling clean cooking solutions for rural women and significantly improving kitchen health and efficiency.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has opened over 55.44 crore bank accounts, with 55.7% of them owned by women.
The initiative has brought millions into the formal banking system and boosted financial literacy.
