Dengue Death Toll In Bangladesh Reaches 269 In 2025

Bangladesh reported six more dengue deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing this year’s toll to 269.

Meanwhile, hospitals admitted 983 people with viral fever, raising total cases in 2025 to 66,423. Four of the recent deaths occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation, while one each was reported in Dhaka South City Corporation and Barishal Division, according to the United News of Bangladesh.

Currently, 993 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, and 2,740 are in hospitals across the country. This year, 61.8 per cent of patients are male, and 38.2 per cent are female. Among the fatalities, 53.2 per cent were men, and 46.8 per cent were women.

By comparison, Bangladesh recorded 575 dengue deaths in 2024.

Director General of Health Services, Abu Jafor, said cases have increased this year, but the death rate is lower. Speaking at the Typhoid Vaccination Campaign-2025 briefing, he stressed the need for mosquito control and personal protection.

“People must use mosquito nets and take preventive measures. If they ignore these steps, controlling dengue becomes very difficult,” Jafor said.

He added that over half of hospital deaths occur on the first day of admission, indicating many patients seek care too late. “Early diagnosis is vital. Dengue can be managed at home with proper medical attention if detected promptly,” he said.

Dengue spreads through infected mosquito bites. It mainly affects urban and semi-urban areas in tropical and sub-tropical regions. While no specific cure exists, early detection and timely medical care reduce fatality risks.

Authorities urge citizens to stay vigilant, eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, and seek treatment quickly to curb the outbreak.
