If your acidity keeps returning despite avoiding spicy food or eating healthy, stress could be the hidden reason.

According to nutritionist Lovneet Batra, prolonged stress affects the gut-brain connection, making digestive issues such as acid reflux, bloating, chest discomfort and frequent burping more common.

Lovneet Batra explains that managing stress is just as important as changing your diet.

One nutrient that plays a key role is tryptophan, an essential amino acid that helps the body produce serotonin.

Often called the ‘feel-good’ chemical, serotonin not only supports mood but also helps regulate digestion.

To start the day, Lovneet recommends eating five soaked almonds, two soaked walnuts and one Brazil nut. Rich in magnesium, these nuts may help the body cope better with stress.

Almonds may also help neutralise stomach acid, while walnuts have been linked to lower stress hormone levels.

For better overnight digestion, Lovneet suggests soaking four to five strands of saffron (kesar) and five black raisins in warm water before bedtime.

According to her, this traditional combination may work as a natural cooling antacid and soothe the stomach while you sleep.

Bananas and well-cooked sweet potatoes are also among her recommendations.

Bananas provide tryptophan and vitamin B6, which support serotonin production, while sweet potatoes supply complex carbohydrates that help the body use tryptophan more effectively.

Another simple remedy is chamomile tea paired with pumpkin seeds.

Lovneet says this combination may help relax the digestive system, reduce inflammation and ease stress-related gut discomfort.

While these foods may support digestive health, persistent acid reflux, chest discomfort or recurring digestive symptoms should be assessed by a healthcare professional rather than managed through home remedies alone.
