The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check unit has flagged a doctored video circulating on social media that falsely attributes a statement to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan.
The video, allegedly shared by Pakistan-backed accounts, attempts to mislead viewers about Operation Sindoor and India’s defence preparedness.
The viral clip claims that CDS General Chauhan admitted India had miscalculated Pakistan’s military strength during Operation Sindoor, resulting in the loss of four Rafale fighter jets.
The fabricated content aims to tarnish India’s international image and sow doubt about the country’s defence capabilities.
In a strong rebuttal, PIB’s Fact Check team categorically stated that the claim is ‘completely fake’. The bureau clarified that General Anil Chauhan never made such a statement at any point.
The agency emphasised that viewers must verify content from authentic government sources and avoid falling for propaganda-driven misinformation.
To counter the disinformation, PIB shared a fake and an original video. The clip clearly shows that the CDS did not make any reference to miscalculations, nor did he comment on any loss of Rafale aircraft.
The Ministry of Defence, along with the Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and the Indian Army (ADGPI), echoed PIB’s clarification.
Officials stressed that hostile elements frequently spread false narratives to weaken public confidence in India’s armed forces.
Authorities urged citizens to rely on official platforms, such as PIB, the Defence Ministry, and DD News, for accurate updates on matters of national security.
The government has appealed to social media users to stay alert against misinformation campaigns, particularly those designed to exploit sensitive defence issues.
By amplifying only verified content, citizens can help prevent the spread of malicious propaganda.
With this clarification, PIB reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of public information. It also countered attempts to malign India’s defence forces through fabricated narratives.
