PIB Exposes AI-Generated Fake Video Targeting Army Chief

The Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking unit has issued a strong warning after identifying a digitally manipulated video circulating across several Pakistan-based propaganda accounts.

The clip falsely attributes controversial remarks to the Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, in an attempt to undermine confidence in the Indian Armed Forces.

The altered video falsely suggests that General Dwivedi advocated handing over Arunachal Pradesh to China to prevent Beijing’s support for Pakistan. It also claims he admitted that Chinese technology had disabled Rafale fighter jets during a period of tension between India and Pakistan.

PIB Fact Check categorically rejected both allegations and asserted that the Army Chief made no such comments, adding that the creators had entirely fabricated the circulating statements.

Authentic Footage Confirms the Video Is Fake

To counter the misinformation, PIB shared a link to the authentic and unedited video, clearly showing that the circulating claims do not resemble the Army Chief’s actual remarks.

Officials confirmed that the viral clip was AI-generated, deliberately crafted to mislead the public and distort India’s national security narrative.

Authorities have advised citizens to exercise caution, emphasising that misinformation of this nature aims to create confusion and weaken public trust in the armed forces.

The fact-checking unit urged social media users to avoid engaging with or sharing unverified content, and to rely solely on credible and official sources, such as the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Army, for accurate information.

The incident serves as a reminder of the growing misuse of AI tools in digital propaganda and the importance of verifying content before circulating it online.
