
Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, widely remembered for his portrayal of Karn in BR Chopra’s television epic Mahabharat, has passed away at the age of 68.
Co-star Arjun Feroz Khan, who played Arjuna in the show, shared his grief on Instagram, writing, “Gentleman!!! Bids goodbye… will miss you PD Stay blessed.”
He also posted a throwback photograph with Dheer, highlighting their bond during the iconic series.
Reports indicate that Pankaj Dheer had battled cancer for several years, although officials have not confirmed the precise cause of his death.
Sources mention that the disease had relapsed a few months ago, and the actor had undergone major surgery as part of his treatment.
Funeral Arrangements
The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) expressed condolences on Instagram, honouring Pankaj Dheer as a respected member of the fraternity, and remembered his contributions to Indian cinema and television.
Pankaj Dheer rose to national fame through his role as Karn in the 1988 epic series Mahabharat. He went on to feature in shows such as Dastak (1993), Zee Horror Show, and played the lead role of a defence lawyer in Kanoon.
Apart from acting, Dheer co-founded the Abbhinnay Acting Academy in Mumbai in 2010, with actor Gufi Paintal serving as the faculty head. Through this venture, he nurtured young talent in the industry.
Dheer is survived by his son Nikitin Dheer, an actor recognised for his performances in films including Chennai Express. His passing marks the end of an era for television audiences who cherished his iconic roles and contributions to Indian entertainment.
