JD(U) Releases First List Of 57 Candidates For Bihar Assembly Elections

The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday unveiled its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, featuring several ministers from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet alongside fresh faces.

The announcement comes just two days before the nomination deadline for the first phase of polls ends on November 6.

Among the prominent names, Bahubali leader Anant Kumar Singh will contest from Mokama, where he had already filed his nomination a day before the official list.

Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary will contest from Sarairanjan in Samastipur district, while JD(U) National General Secretary Shyam Rajak will fight from Phulwarisharif in Patna.

JD(U) has fielded Ramanand Mandal from Suryagarha, denying a ticket to Prahalad Yadav, who switched from RJD to NDA.

Bihar JD(U) president Umesh Singh Kushwaha will contest from Mahnar (Vaishali), Cabinet Minister Maheshwar Hazari from Kalyanpur (SC reserved), Minister Ratnesh Sada from Sonbarsa (SC reserved), Minister Amrendra Pratap Singh from Kuchaikot (Gopalganj), and Education Minister Sunil Kumar from Bhore.

JD(U) has allotted a ticket from Gaighat (Muzaffarpur) to Komal Singh, daughter of Veena Devi (LJP-RV MP from Vaishali), signalling the party’s outreach to LJP supporters.

Most constituencies in the list fall under the first phase of the elections.

Under the NDA’s seat-sharing arrangement, JD(U) will contest 101 of Bihar’s 243 Assembly seats. The remaining seats are distributed among the BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

The list highlights JD(U)’s strategy of balancing experienced leaders and new entrants as it prepares to retain influence across key constituencies in the state.
