In a recent conversation with popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, Sunny Deol made a surprising revelation about his childhood struggles with dyslexia.
Sunny Deol’s Candid Admission
During the interview, Sunny Deol disclosed that teleprompters had been his secret adversaries and his fear of public speaking had roots in his dyslexia. The accomplished actor, who later entered the realm of politics, candidly shared that during his childhood, he faced slaps and the label of a ‘duffer’ due to his academic performance. However, at that time, neither he nor his surroundings truly understood the implications of dyslexia.
He recounted, “I was dyslexic as a child. Back then, we didn’t even know what that meant! Thappad padte the, duffer hai, padhai nahi aati (I would get slapped, called a duffer for not being able to study). Even now when it comes to reading, sometimes the words seem all jumbled up.”

Facing Challenges and Embracing Strengths
Sunny Deol also revealed that despite being asked to use teleprompters for public appearances, he declines the offer, preferring to speak impromptu. He humorously remarked, “I am like, ‘You tell me what to say, I will try to say it.’” He considers dyslexia as just one facet of his personality and highlighted his high IQ. Over the years, his dyslexia remained mostly unspoken of, but he acknowledged that initially, he struggled with nervousness while speaking in public.
As time went on, the actor, known for his iconic role in “Gadar,” experienced a comeback after nearly nine years on the big screen. The sequel to the 2001 hit film marked his return, shattering records and emerging as the year’s highest-grossing film, second only to “Pathaan.” Recently, “Gadar 2” crossed the remarkable milestone of Rs 400 crore at the box office.
