According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Maharashtra witnessed a subdued voter turnout of 32.18% in its single-phase assembly elections, while Jharkhand recorded a slightly higher turnout of 47.92% during the second phase of its assembly polls as of 1 PM on Wednesday.
The highest turnout in Maharashtra was reported from the naxal-affected Gadchiroli district, where 50.89% of registered voters cast their ballots by early afternoon.
Mumbai city recorded the lowest turnout at 27.73%, reflecting voter apathy in the state’s financial capital.
Other key districts also showed varying levels of participation:
Smaller districts like Jalgaon (27.88%) and Nanded (28.15%) joined Mumbai in reporting some of the lowest turnouts, while mid-sized districts like Hingoli (35.97%) and Chandrapur (35.54%) fared better.
In Jharkhand, the second phase of elections, covering 38 constituencies, saw more active voter participation.

Polling began at 7 AM on Wednesday, covering 288 constituencies in Maharashtra and 38 seats in Jharkhand. Results for all the assembly seats, as well as the bypolls, will be declared on 23 November.
