An official stated that the two-day meeting of senior officials of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva beginning tomorrow will focus on issues such as dispute settlement reform and the likely agenda for the upcoming ministerial conference in February next year.
Senior officials from India, including Additional Secretary in the Commerce Ministry Peeyush Kumar, have arrived at the WTO headquarters in Geneva.
“Senior capital-based government officials from all WTO members will be in Geneva on October 23-24 to provide the necessary political push and help address specific problems to advance work for MC13”, the official continued.
The 13th Ministerial Conference (MC134) is set to take place in Abu Dhabi from February 26 to February 29. The WTO’s highest decision-making body is the Ministerial Conference.
The multi-lateral organization deals with worldwide exports and import-related norms. Furthermore, the 164-member body resolves trade disputes among member countries. A summary of the two days of discussion will be produced at the end of the conference.
