Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister, condemned the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus for torturing citizens. She demanded the immediate release of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a leader of the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, who is jailed in Chittagong.
“A religious leader has been unjustly arrested. He must be released immediately,” said Hasina. She left the country in August after the ‘Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.’
Government Fails to Protect Minorities
Hasina accused the government of targeting minorities. She cited reports of temple burnings in Chittagong and attacks on mosques, shrines, churches, and Ahmadiyya homes.
“These attacks show a failure to protect religious freedom. Every community deserves safety and security,” she stated. Hasina also condemned the arrests and assaults on Awami League leaders and supporters.
Chittagong Court Violence Condemned
Sheikh Hasina criticized the death of lawyer Saiful Islam during violence in the Chittagong court. “Beating a lawyer to death while on duty is terrorism. Those responsible must face justice,” she said.
She accused the Yunus government of unconstitutionally seizing power and failing to control the rising violence. She urged citizens to unite against “terrorism and militancy.”
India also condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Its Ministry of External Affairs called the incidents of arson and vandalism deeply troubling. It urged the government to ensure justice and protect minority rights.
