SAP’s India R&D Hub Becomes Key Global Growth Driver

India is now SAP’s ‘super-strategic market,’ housing the software giant’s largest research and development (R&D) center outside its headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. Thomas Saueressig, SAP’s executive board member, shared this insight during the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 23.

Saueressig proudly highlighted India’s role, noting that the company employs over 15,000 talented developers in its Indian lab. This year, SAP expanded its presence by opening a second campus in India, which can host an additional 15,000 professionals.

He also pointed out that half of India’s unicorns are SAP customers, and the company is actively helping these startups scale globally. SAP’s growing influence in India is helping drive the company’s growth.

SAP plans to hire significantly in India, where it will soon surpass the size of its German workforce. Saueressig revealed that India is home to SAP’s digital co-pilot development and that every product line is represented in the country. As a result, India plays a central role in SAP’s global product development.
