The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) will make its global debut with the first edition of ‘India Weekend’ in New York City from September 12–14, 2025.
The event will take place at the prestigious Lincoln Centre for the Performing Arts. It aims to showcase India’s rich cultural tapestry through music, theatre, fashion, crafts, and cuisine.
The highlight of the event will be the US premiere of ‘The Great Indian Musical: Civilisation to Nation’. This is India’s largest theatrical production, involving more than 100 performers.
Directed by Feroz Abbas Khan, it features choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant and Mayuri Upadhya, music by Ajay-Atul, and costumes by Manish Malhotra.
The performance will trace India’s journey from 5000 BC to Independence in 1947.
Red carpet, cuisine, and crafts to feature at ‘India Weekend’
An invite-only red-carpet evening titled ‘Grand Swagat’ will be held during the weekend. It will include the Swadesh Fashion Show curated by Manish Malhotra, presenting Indian traditional weaves.
Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna will lead a culinary experience blending ancient and modern Indian cuisine.
The ‘Great Indian Bazaar’ at Damrosch Park will run through the event, offering immersive experiences in textiles, crafts, wellness, and performance arts.
The weekend will also include yoga sessions with Eddie Stern, bhajans, Gita readings, and dance classes by Shiamak Davar’s team.
Live musical acts will feature Shankar Mahadevan, Shreya Ghoshal, Parthiv Gohil, and Rishab Sharma.
The celebrations will end with ‘Phoolon Ki Holi’ and a Retro Nights-themed DJ event.
India’s culture finds global voice
Founder Nita Ambani said the event is a global celebration of India’s legacy.
“This special weekend celebrates the spirit of India on one of the world’s most iconic stages,” she said.
She had earlier announced the initiative at WAVES 2025, stating it would place Indian culture at the heart of global conversation.
“We will spotlight the soul of India—our arts, our weaves, our music and food—in all its glory,” Ambani noted.
Since its March 2023 launch in Mumbai, NMACC has hosted over 1,500 shows by 7,000 artists and welcomed more than two million guests.
Productions like Mughal-e-Azam, Rajadhiraaj, and The Phantom of the Opera have drawn major audiences.
