Maruti Suzuki’s Electric SUV, eVX, Scheduled for Production at Gujarat Facility

According to the business, Maruti Suzuki’s eVX electric car would have a 60kWh battery pack with a 550km range on a single charge.

Leading manufacturer Maruti Suzuki of India will produce the first all-electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) in the market, known as the “eVX,” from its Hansalpur plant in Gujarat in 2024–2025, according to a senior company official. Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese carmaker.

The company running the Hansalpur auto plant, Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Ltd (SMG), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki. It started functioning in February 2017.

“In2024–2025, SMG’s Hansalpur plant will construct our first electric vehicle (EV) SUV. “A new plant or new production line will be integrated into the existing setup to manufacture the EV,” stated Rahul Bharti, executive director (corporate affairs) of Maruti Suzuki, at a press event in Ahmedabad. “Currently, the facility has three plants.”

He continued, “The 60kWh battery pack that comes with the eVX promises a range of roughly 560 km on a full charge.”

SMG reached an agreement with the Gujarati government in March 2022 to invest ₹3,100 crore in the Hansalpur plant to manufacture electric vehicles, according to Bharti.

Suzuki’s EV concept model, the eVX, made its international debut in January at the Maruti Suzuki Pavilion at Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi.

According to Bharti, SMG exceeded the 3 million car production milestone at the factory on December 4.

“SMG started operating in February 2017 and reached the 3 million cumulative output threshold in about 6 years and 11 months. Notably, the last million units were produced in a just 17 months, the speaker stated.

The yearly production capacity of Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat factory is 750,000 lakh vehicles. He continued, “Cars made here are sold in both domestic and export markets.”

According to him, Maruti Suzuki manufactures 50% of the vehicles it exports at its Hansalpur plant.
