Markets Rally As Sensex And Nifty Open Firm On Hopes Of India–US Trade Breakthrough

Indian markets opened higher on Friday, buoyed by global cues and renewed optimism over a possible India–US trade agreement.

Sensex, Nifty Extend Gains On Global Cues And Sustained Foreign Inflows

Indian equity markets began Friday’s session on a positive trajectory, supported by a global market rebound and investor optimism surrounding progress on the long-awaited India–US trade deal.

Sentiment improved further following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s conversation with US President Donald Trump a day earlier, during which both leaders reviewed economic cooperation and ongoing trade negotiations.

At market opening, the Sensex advanced 391 points, or 0.46 per cent, to reach 85,209. The Nifty mirrored the trend, adding 112 points, or 0.43 per cent, to trade at 26,010.

Market strategists noted that immediate support for the Nifty now stands around 25,750–25,800, with a deeper cushion placed near 25,500.

On the upper side, resistance is expected between 26,000 and 26,050. Analysts added that sustained movement beyond 26,050 could trigger additional buying, potentially driving the index towards 26,300.

Top Gainers and Stocks Under Pressure

A strong buying trend across major stocks fuelled the morning rally. Leading gainers included L&T, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Ultratech Cement, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, BEL, NTPC, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki India and Power Grid.

However, selective profit booking weighed on several counters such as Wipro, Sun Pharma, HDFC Life, HUL, Eicher Motors, Infosys and Tech Mahindra, which saw marginal declines.

Broader markets also reflected resilience. The Nifty MidCap index advanced 0.42 per cent, while the Nifty SmallCap index edged up 0.54 per cent.

The Nifty Metal index emerged as the standout performer of the session, rising 1.44 per cent on the back of robust buying interest. Gains were also recorded in Nifty Realty, Media, Private Bank and Financial Services indices.

Meanwhile, the Nifty FMCG index was the sole laggard, trading slightly lower in the early session.

Analysts said overall market sentiment remains upbeat, driven by favourable global cues and expectations of meaningful progress in India–US trade discussions.

Foreign portfolio investors have offloaded equities worth ₹14,845 crore so far in December. However, this has been more than offset by strong domestic institutional buying amounting to ₹36,097 crore over the same period.
