The equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened flat on Monday as investors sought to book profits owing to mixed Asian market trends.
In early trading, the 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 15.56 points, or 0.01 percent to 79,981.04. The Nifty moved 0.35 points, or 0.00 percent to 24,324.20.
IRFC, Marico, RECL, Dabur India, Bharat Electronics, Godrej Consumer, Power Finance Corp, IRCTC, Nestle India, United Spirits, and Tata Consumer were the top gainers.
Among the laggards were Titan, Bank of Baroda, Divi’s Labs, Shriram Finance, Shree Cement, Adani Ports, Asian Paints, BPCL, ICICI Lombard, Interglobe Aviation, and Adani Enterprises.
In Asian markets, Tokyo, Thailand, Taiwan, and South Korea were trading in positive territory, while Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Shanghai, and Singapore were trading in negative territory.
US markets closed higher on Thursday.
European markets ended on a mixed note on Friday.
Brent crude lost 0.09 percent to USD 86.46 per barrel.
According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 1,241.33 crore on Friday.
On Friday, the Sensex slipped 53.07, or 0.06 percent to 79,996.60, while the Nifty advanced 21.70 points, or 0.08 percent to 24,323.85.
