India’s total number of internet subscribers crossed the 100 crore mark for the first time by June 2025.
The Ministry of Communications released the data on 3 September in the TRAI Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report for the March-June 2025 quarter.
According to the report, the number of internet users in the country rose by 3.48 per cent during the quarter. The total went up from 96.91 crore at the end of March 2025 to 100.28 crore by June 2025.
Out of this total, 4.47 crore people use wired internet, while 95.81 crore rely on wireless connections.
The report said that 97.97 crore subscribers use broadband services, while 2.31 crore continue to use narrowband.
Urban areas had 57.94 crore internet users, and rural areas followed with 42.33 crore. This reflects growing digital access across regions.
The wireless (mobile + 5G FWA) subscriber base also grew. It rose from 116 crore in March 2025 to 117 crore in June 2025. This is a growth rate of 0.61 per cent, with a net addition of 71.2 lakh users in the quarter.
The mobile wireless subscriber base alone grew by 60 lakh users. It increased from 115 crore to 116 crore, recording 0.52 per cent growth over the previous quarter.
The monthly Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) for wireless services stood at ₹186.62.
Each wireless subscriber used an average of 16.76 hours (1,006 minutes) per month.
Wireless users consumed 24.01 GB of data per month on average. The revenue per GB during the quarter was ₹8.51.
TRAI’s report shows that India’s digital reach continues to expand. Rising data use and subscriber growth reflect a deeper digital shift in the economy.
