India’s economy posted robust growth in 2025-26, with gross domestic product (GDP) expanding by 7.7 per cent during the financial year and 7.8 per cent in the January-March quarter, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics.

Agriculture, manufacturing, construction and services drove the strong economic performance, supporting broad-based growth across the economy.

The latest figures reinforce India’s position as one of the fastest-growing major economies despite ongoing global economic uncertainties.

According to official data, the secondary sector, which includes manufacturing and construction activities, recorded an impressive growth rate of 8.8 per cent during the year.

The services sector emerged as the strongest performer, expanding by 9.9 per cent, while the primary sector grew by 3.2 per cent, supported largely by agriculture and fisheries.

Several sectors, including manufacturing, trade, hotels, transport, financial services, real estate and professional services, recorded double-digit growth during 2025-26, reflecting strong domestic demand and economic resilience.

Private consumption and fixed capital formation also grew by over 7.5 per cent, supported by government spending on major infrastructure projects such as highways, railways, ports and airports.

The Ministry of Statistics released the figures using the revised 2022-23 base year, establishing a new benchmark for measuring India’s economic performance.

The final GDP growth rate of 7.7 per cent surpassed the NSO’s earlier estimate of 7.6 per cent.

The IMF also expects India to remain the only major economy to grow above 6 per cent in 2025-26, underscoring the strength and resilience of the country’s domestic economy.
