Gautam Adani Charts A Proudly Indian Future For Storytelling

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said on Monday that the future of storytelling in India is bright.

He also commended the students at filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International.

Adani delivered a keynote address at the Celebrate Cinema 2025 event held at Whistling Woods. He was accompanied by his wife, Dr Priti Adani.

On X, he stated, “At Whistling Woods, I saw that the future of storytelling is bright and proudly Indian”.

His comments came in response to a tweet by Ghai, who celebrated the event.

“Some evenings turn into milestones. Gautam Adani & amp; Dr Priti Adani’s visit to Whistling Woods was one such moment – where art met ambition, and cinema met nation-building. The students felt seen, inspired & ready to dream 100X bigger,” Ghai wrote, posting a video capturing the highlights of the occasion.

During his keynote, Adani reflected on India’s need to create its own narrative through films and storytelling.

He also stressed the use of technological innovations like AI to strengthen this narrative.

He also said, “If we do not narrate who we are, others will rewrite who we were. That is why we must own our story, not with arrogance, but with authenticity, not as propaganda, but as purpose”.

Adani also warned against letting India’s stories be told only through Western perspectives.

He cited films such as Gandhi and Slumdog Millionaire as examples.

“Why must it take Richard Attenborough from across the oceans to tell us Indians the story of our Mahatma?” he asked, stressing the need for Indians to reclaim their voice on the global stage.

He further reflected on the muted presence of India’s narrative beyond its borders, saying, “India’s voice has been firm within our own borders but faint beyond them. And in that silence, others have lifted the pen, sketching Bharat through their lenses tinted by bias and shaped by their convenience”

Adani’s message resonated with students and industry professionals alike.

He underlined the potential of Indian cinema to not only entertain but also assert the nation’s cultural identity globally.

He emphasised that it can blend purpose with innovation and vision.
