CJI Bhushan Gavai Inaugurates New Court Building In Mandangad; Honouring Dr Ambedkar’s Legacy

In a significant boost to Maharashtra’s judicial infrastructure, Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai inaugurated the newly constructed Court Building at Mandangad in Ratnagiri district on October 12, 2025.

The event witnessed the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court Chandrashekar, Guardian Minister Uday Samant, and several senior judges and dignitaries.

The occasion also featured the unveiling of a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and murals depicting milestones from his life, symbolising the judiciary’s respect for his enduring contribution to social justice and constitutional values.

The new Mandangad Court Building stands as a state-of-the-art facility, equipped with digital infrastructure, modern courtrooms, and improved amenities designed to meet the rising demands of the region’s justice system.

It reflects the judiciary’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accessible and timely justice for citizens, particularly in rural and remote areas.

In his keynote address, Chief Justice Gavai highlighted the importance of strengthening grassroots judicial infrastructure to build public confidence in the justice delivery system.

He stated, “The country has remained united in times of war and peace because of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. It continues to guide our path of progress.”

Collaboration Between the Judiciary and the Executive

Justice Gavai credited the Maharashtra government for its swift execution of the Mandangad court project, completed in just two years.

He said, “In the last 22 years as a judge, I have always championed the decentralisation of justice. The completion of the Kolhapur circuit bench and now the Mandangad court gives me immense satisfaction.”

He further emphasised the need for cooperation between the executive and judiciary, noting that judicial efficiency depends on adequate financial support.

He cited recently completed projects in Nashik, Nagpur, Kolhapur, and Daryapur as examples of effective collaboration.

Mandangad Taluka holds special historical importance as it is home to Ambadve, the ancestral village of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The establishment of this modern court in the region serves as both an infrastructural advancement and a tribute to Ambedkar’s mission of equality, empowerment, and justice for all.

The event drew participation from the local bar, officials, and citizens, who hailed it as a landmark step in bringing justice closer to the people.

The inauguration reaffirms India’s ongoing commitment to expanding judicial access and upholding the constitutional ideals envisioned by Dr Ambedkar.
