Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on Monday announced that his social media platform, X, has evolved into what he calls a “group chat for Earth,” with a substantial user base from around the globe.
Musk revealed that X now boasts 600 million monthly active users (MAUs) worldwide.
He further emphasized this milestone in a post, declaring, “X is the group chat for Earth.”
The announcement spurred various responses from users.
One user remarked, “X is a global town square for the people,” while another hinted at an upcoming feature, posting, “New X feature inbound Earth Chat.”
Musk, who acquired X in 2022 for $44 billion, has ambitious plans for the platform.
His vision is to transform X into an “everything app,” enabling users to share movies, TV shows, and even make digital payments.
Meanwhile, in addition to the global user base milestone, Musk highlighted that X’s usage in the US has reached an unprecedented level.
“Around 76 billion total user-seconds in the US, beating the previous record by 5 percent,” he shared.
Back in March, X reported that users spend an average of 30 minutes per day on the platform.
Since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October 2022, when it was predominantly a 140-character messaging app, the platform has undergone significant transformations.
At the time of the acquisition, there were approximately 3,500 creators on the platform.
Musk’s vision for X continues to unfold as he seeks to expand its capabilities and user engagement, aiming to solidify its place as a central hub for global communication and digital interaction.
