The most recent release includes consolidated time-series data updated up to the financial year 2022-23, revealing significant growth and milestones.
Remarkable Growth in Direct Tax Collections
Direct Tax Collections have witnessed an impressive surge, marking a substantial increase of 160.52%. The figures have risen from Rs. 6,38,596 crore in the financial year 2013-14 to an impressive Rs. 16,63,686 crore in the financial year 2022-23. This remarkable growth underscores the robustness of the direct tax system over the past decade.
Unprecedented Rise in Gross Direct Tax Collections
The Gross Direct Tax Collections for the financial year 2022-23 have soared to Rs. 19,72,248 crore, exhibiting a remarkable surge of 173.31% compared to the Gross Direct Tax Collections of Rs. 7,21,604 crore recorded in the financial year 2013-14. This unprecedented rise reflects the efficacy of tax administration measures and the expanding tax base.
Surge in Income Tax Return (ITR) Filings
The data reveals a substantial increase in the total number of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) filed in the financial year 2022-23. The figures stand at 7.78 crore, showcasing an impressive growth of 104.91% compared to the total number of ITRs filed in the financial year 2013-14, which was 3.80 crore. This surge in ITR filings indicates greater compliance and participation in the income tax filing process.
