Apple has reaffirmed its commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, assuring the Indian government that it will continue to manufacture its products in the country. Sources familiar with the matter said on Thursday that there is “no change in Apple’s investment plans in India.”
Apple’s growing reliance on India reflects the country’s rising competitiveness and strategic importance in the global tech supply chain. “India has shown big companies like Apple the value of ‘Make in India’,” a source added.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to shift more production to the United States. Trump said, “Apple will be upping its production in the United States,” during a meeting in Doha, Qatar.
Despite the political pressure, Apple continues to strengthen its manufacturing base in India. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently said that tech giants like Apple see clear economic benefits in investing in India. “Apple has decided to source and produce all its mobile phones in India in the years to come,” he stated.
Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that most iPhones for the US market in the April–June quarter would come from India. China will supply units for other global markets.
According to IDC, Apple saw 23% growth in India during January–March 2025, shipping a record 3 million units. The iPhone 16 was the top model, making up 4% of India’s Q1 shipments.
Prabhu Ram, VP at CyberMedia Research, said India offers scalable, high-quality manufacturing and strong export potential. “India is Apple’s most viable alternative to China over the next decade,” he said.
He added that replicating Asia’s supply chain in the US would be complex and costly. “India’s role in Apple’s global strategy will continue to grow,” Ram concluded.
