Adani Power Secures 1,500 MW Power Supply Contract For UP

Adani Power Ltd., India’s largest private sector thermal power generator, has won a highly competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW (net) of thermal power to Uttar Pradesh.

The company will deliver this power from a greenfield 2×800 MW Ultra-supercritical power plant, which it will establish in the state with an investment of approximately \$2 billion.

Adani Power further secured the project by submitting the lowest tariff bid of Rs 5.383 per unit in the competitive tender process.

This contract marks a significant milestone in the company’s expansion and its role in addressing Uttar Pradesh’s growing energy needs.

Power Supply Agreement With UPPCL

This development further follows the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet’s approval of the project earlier this month.

Adani Power is now set to sign a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL), formalising the terms of the contract under the Letter of Award (LoA) it received today.

Adani Power’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. SB Khyalia, expressed the company’s enthusiasm about securing the bid.

“We are happy to have won the competitive bid to supply 1,500 MW of power to Uttar Pradesh and feel privileged to play a leading role in meeting the state’s rapidly growing power demand,” he said.

“We plan to set up a modern, low-emission Ultra-supercritical plant in Uttar Pradesh and aim to begin supplying reliable and high-quality power by FY30.”

Investment And Employment Opportunities

The new power plant will require an investment of around $2 billion to establish, including necessary infrastructure.

Once operational, it will provide ongoing employment for around 2,000 people.

Factors such as industrialisation, urbanisation, and modernisation of infrastructure are driving this surge in demand.

The 1,500 MW power plant is part of the state government’s efforts to address this future requirement and ensure a stable and sustainable energy supply for its residents.

Adani Power’s Recent Wins And Expansion

This is the second major PSA bid that Adani Power has won in the past year. In September 2024, the company received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. (MSEDCL) for a composite 6,600 MW project, which includes 1,600 MW of thermal power and 5,000 MW of solar power.

This project has since been converted into a PSA.
