Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the flagship company of the Adani Group, on Saturday flagged off India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The truck supports mining logistics and marks a significant step in advancing India’s push for cleaner energy in industrial operations.
The initiative will gradually phase out diesel-powered trucks used in cargo and mining transportation.
Smart & Sustainable Technology
Top Indian and global firms built the hydrogen truck to carry 40 tonnes across 200 km.
Each truck comes equipped with three hydrogen tanks and smart onboard systems for enhanced performance and safety.
The vehicle will be deployed to transport coal from the Gare Pelma III block to a nearby power plant operated by the state.
State Support & Sustainable Vision
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai flagged off the truck and praised the initiative as a landmark moment for the state.
“The launch of India’s first hydrogen-powered truck in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s commitment to sustainability. Such initiatives will significantly reduce our carbon footprint and set a new standard for industry,” he said.
The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh leads in power generation and adopts green, responsible industrial practices.
Integrated Green Energy Initiative
The hydrogen truck project is a joint venture between Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both subsidiaries of Adani Enterprises.
While ANR manages mining operations, ANIL will supply the hydrogen fuel cells.
ANIL also develops green hydrogen, solar modules, battery systems, and wind energy, thereby building an integrated clean energy ecosystem.
Towards Responsible Mining
Dr Vinay Prakash, CEO of Natural Resources and Director at Adani Enterprises, said the hydrogen truck launch is key to Adani’s decarbonisation goals.
He added that it reflects the company’s commitment to responsible mining.
“We are building model mines with minimal environmental impact through technologies like autonomous dozer push, solar energy use, digital mining tools, and tree transplantation,” he said.
Prakash affirmed that Adani’s vision is to provide reliable and affordable electricity while pioneering sustainable practices in India’s core industries.
With this green milestone, Adani Enterprises is expected to set a benchmark for sustainable mining logistics in India.
With hydrogen trucks now entering operational use, the company aims to revolutionise cargo transport and encourage wider adoption of clean energy in the industrial sector.
